Provincial Park
is a wilderness recreation park,
consisting of deep canyons, mountains, wetlands, lakefront and
forests, situated on the western shores of Okanagan Lake hidden
away from the sights and sounds of the city. The park is located
north of the community of Westbank on the opposite side of the
lake from the community of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.
The Fintry park system is divided into two regions.
The Fintry Provincial Park is 360 hectares and includes a campground,
a sandy beach and a waterfall hiking trail. The connecting 523
Fintry Protected Area protects the habitat of the California Bighorn
Sheep.
The Fintry Provincial Park is a park rich in
history with buildings and artifacts from the past located in
the park like Manor House (a packing house) and an odd shaped
barn.
The recreation campground and day use park is
a popular destination for people who enjoy hiking, swimming, kayaking,
canoeing, fishing, windsurfing, scuba diving, sightseeing, birdwatching
and camping.
The campground and day use area in the park rests
on a long exposed sandy and pebbled beach shoreline. The campground
includes picnic tables, fire pits, flush and pit toilets, fresh
water and showers. Near the campground is a day use area, playground,
picnic shelter and a boat launch.
The Shorts Creek Canyon Trail is located about
500 metres south of the campground. Look for a pull out on the
side of the road. The trail includes stair climbing, exploring
through cottonwood tree forests and through deep canyons leading
to cascading waterfalls.
Shorts Creek Trail is a hard packed, earthy trail
with exposed tree roots, boulders and loose rocks ultimately connecting
to boardwalk paths, stairs and bridges. The trail explores along
narrow steep cliffs, crosses suspension bridges leading to wooden
viewing platforms. The third highest viewing platform provides
the best views of the waterfall and wetland delta.
